Ian Shipley

Hi there – I’m Ian – For thirty years I have been traditionally hand-digging graves in the villages of Nottinghamshire / Lincolnshire.

3,792 graves dug in 126 different locations;

Foreman at Newark Cemetery (1997 – 2003);

Married; I live with my wife Alison and Wag the dog on the outskirts of Southwell, Nottinghamshire.

Next year I will be fifty (boo, hiss) -

I have published two books. `Tales of a Gravedigger’ (2006) / A Gravedigger’s Tales‘ (2009). Currently I’m working on a possible third book entitled `Newark’s Punks(30 years of noise and mayhem) -

Buy ‘A Gravedigger’s Tales’ £6.99 post-paid – shipleyian@hotmail.co.uk

March 16th 2011 – After 29 years, 3,008 digs I am no longer resident gravedigger at Newark Cemetery.
